The Driftless Area is a region in southeastern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin that escaped glaciation during the last ice age. Consequently, it is characterized by steep, forested ridges, deeply-carved river valleys, spring-fed waterfalls, and cold-water trout streams. It also features beautiful Lake Pepin, the largest and most scenic lake on the entire length of the Mississippi River!  The rugged terrain is due both to the lack of glacial deposits (or drift) and to the Mississippi River and its tributaries slicing through the underlying bedrock.   The unique geology provides a haven full of abundant wildlife, fishing, sightseeing, and many other recreational opportunities!
